The association
L’Atelier Bhimraya is the non-profit association behind India Bhimraya. It was created to give a lasting structure to a project shaped by more than twenty years of research, filming, archival work and long-term relationships in India.
The association supports the completion and circulation of the six films, the preservation and sharing of their archives, and the artistic, academic and Franco-Indian collaborations developing around the series. Its role is to provide the material, editorial and institutional framework through which this long-term work can become a collective and accessible body of films and archives — and continue to develop beyond its original initiators.

Vision & mission
L’Atelier Bhimraya is dedicated to documenting, preserving and sharing social and political worlds too often left at the margins of dominant narratives. Through documentary film, long-term fieldwork, archival research, translation, public screenings and collaborative cultural projects, it brings together images, voices and histories of caste, displacement, rural transformation, social movements, inequality and collective resistance.
Rooted in sustained Franco-Indian collaborations, the association brings research, artistic practice and public debate into conversation. Beyond India Bhimraya itself, its ambition is to create a lasting space for archives, encounters and critical storytelling connecting South Asia and France with wider questions of dignity, equality and social justice.
People
Joël Cabalion
Secretary
A sociologist and anthropologist, Joël Cabalion has conducted research in India for more than twenty years, particularly in Maharashtra, on caste, agrarian change, displacement, large dams and social movements. India Bhimraya grew out of this long-term work: repeated returns to the same villages and families, and the filming of social transformations as they unfolded over time. He leads the research and editorial direction of the series and co-directs the films with Mrina Reebye.
Mrina Reebye
President
Mrina Reebye is co-director of India Bhimraya and has been closely involved in its fieldwork and cinematic development. She contributes to the direction of the films, their narrative and visual construction, and the transformation of a vast body of footage — encounters, everyday scenes, journeys, archives and repeated returns — into a coherent documentary series. Her work is central to the project’s effort to convey people’s lives and trajectories without reducing their complexity.
Burhan Aliti
Treasurer
Burhan Aliti brings to L’Atelier Bhimraya twenty-five years of engagement alongside communities in working-class and marginalised urban neighbourhoods. His involvement is rooted in a conviction that solidarity is one of the strongest forms of resistance to domination.
